The base camp was the Big Bend campground at Lee Vining Creek. The nights were cool and the days were warm and sunny. With the exception of the Bodie bass fishing, all went as planned. The Lizards feasted on ribs, baked beans, country potatoes, pancakes, hamburgers, french fries, peaches, ham, french bread, sweet rolls, and, of course, trout!
Jr. Lizard Gecko did manage to outeat any two adult Lizards and we are still trying to figure that one out...
The Hot Creek soak was exceptionally good this year. The spring was more thermally active than past years, and we were told that the area may even become a volcano in ten or twenty thousand years. But since Lizards do not schedule appointments that far in advance, we just soaked and enjoyed the extra heat.
It should be noted that, like all Lizards trips, there were no "bosses" to help us focus our productivity or kick our butts... Like most Lizard trips, Lee Vining was very much a democratic series of events, and very low key. Lizards did pretty much what they liked, but strangely, dishes did get washed, and dinner cooked. Camp got set up and wood for the evening fire was collected, and all without supervision!
Only two minor injuries were reported and two new Lizard rules were added to the wealth of Lizard wisdom...
#15 If you ignore rule #14 you can stop the bleeding with a clean paper towel and a rubber band to maintain the pressure.
Missed you at Lee Vining! Yip, yip, yip!
