Bodie was one of the early towns of the West to have electrical power. A hydroelectric plant on Green Creek (above Bridgeport) was built in 1892 to supply the electric hoists of the mine and the lights of town. Of interesting note, the towns folk installed the power poles from the generation station to Bodie (13 miles) in a straight line for fear that the electrical power could not turn corners.
